Possum's Political Ramblings

Just what the world needs, you say, another opinionated and seemingly ill-informed blog full of ignorant rantings. A world where genuine quality news, information, and analysis is under attack by different vested interests from presidents to media tycoons to social media rantings. A world where knowledge, expertise, science are all under attack from a distrusting electorate. A post truth world. A world where democracy and freedom seems under threat by manipulation through media.

So I quite understand, dear followers (I have a few I believe), if you are sceptical and uninterested in my thoughts on anything. Isn't a 240 character rant with a hastag enough you say. well the more I have used Twitter and other media over the years, and the more the need for quality analysis and informed comment beckons, the more I have thought to myself - 240 characters is not really enough to argue a case. When people with many followers, people with names, people who are trusted and have power make, for me, incorrect arguments or flawed arguments, I feel there is a need for analysis and critique of those arguments - with a right of reply and opportunity to discuss at greater length.

When political discourse is so flawed that any attempt at a progressive or reforming social or economic policy is challenged and destroyed by successful political, media and social media misinformation campaigns. When experts struggle to be heard or struggle to communicate their expertise I feel there is a gap. When I see an expert making good points but need clarification, questions, explanation, expansion.

With all these things I feel there is a gap. I know, you say, there are countless bloggers out there who think they know better, who think they are filling the gap. Who needs another one.

I guess I agree with you but the world is so frustrating now, and I have so much knowledge, training,  and time. Combine that with an unfulfilled desire to write about politics, economics, society or anything that interests me that I couldn't help myself.

Sorry folks. Welcome to Possum's Political Ramblings
